Hi folks...welcome to Wine Country "Q"! We are a husband and wife Competition BBQ Team from Duvall, Washington. WCQ was born from two passions...Rhana McGee's passion for fine wines and traveling, and John "JD" McGee's passion for competition bbq. With our love for travel and competition we thought the competition bbq circuit seemed like the perfect hobby to satisfy both passions...we were right!
We teamed up in 2011 and did pretty well our first year winning 7 Grand Championships and 1 Reserve Grand Championship along with the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association's "Team Of The Year".
2012, 2013, and 2014 brought more success for us winning a total of 16 Grand Championships, 13 Reserve Grand Championships, and an unprecedented 4th consecutive "Team Of The Year" award from the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association!
We have also earned invitations to the most prestigious events in the country including The Jack Daniel's World Invitational in Lynchburg, TN, the American Royal Invitational in Kansas City, MO, The King of the Smoker Invitational in Palm Springs, CA, and The World Food Championships in Las Vegas, NV.

Rhana and I were thrilled to get the call from Big Poppa Smokers to compete against the very best Pitmasters in the USA for the second year in a row!
The very best in BBQ will be invited to compete at this unique competition on December 13th, 2014. The King of the Smoker competition will be located at the beautiful La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, CA and will feature some of the top names in BBQ. 24 big BBQ names will be competing for $50,000 and the title of, “King of the Smoker.”
But, Big Poppa's King of the Smoker is a competition with a twist! Each Pitmaster will be required to cook the same meat, no garnish, and they are allowed zero electricity to assist in their cook. That's right... no pit minders, Gurus, or pellet cookers will be permitted! The King of the Smoker is an old school competition with a level playing field, and is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society under their Competitor Series.
Competitors for 2014 include Johnny Trigg, "The Godfather," of BBQ, Chris Lilly of Big Bob Gibson BBQ, Rod Gray of Pellet Envy, and more! Public is allowed access to the competition grounds after final turn in at 1:30PM. Starting immediately after, select teams will be hosting mini BBQ classes to attendees. Mini BBQ classes will cover everything from, "rubs & sauces," to, "brisket tips & tricks." Most of these championship teams never host classes or share their cooking tips with the public; this is something that only happens at King of the Smoker!
This event is for everyone, from BBQ die-hards to BBQ beginners. There will be food for sale that benefits Operation BBQ Relief, more info on their organization can be found here.
All ticket proceeds benefit the Casey Lee Ball Foundation for pediatric kidney disease. All food vendor proceeds benefit Operation BBQ Relief.
